CFP Homiletics 2020: The Futures of the Study of Preaching

For twenty years at the ICMS, the Society for the Study of Anglo-Saxon Homiletics (SSASH) has thrived in its aims to promote scholarship related to the sources, compositions, appropriations, and studies of Anglo-Saxon preaching. Now it is time to take stock. The session proposed for 2020 seeks to continue this presence at the ICMS, in the form of a roundtable to discuss the state and future of the field.
This roundtable will be an opportunity to reflect upon the state of the field for the study of medieval preaching (broadly construed), looking back at work already done and ahead to future possibilities. Presenters will be asked to consider and present responses to some major questions, including: What have we learned from studying preaching in early England? What has this field contributed to medieval studies broadly? What types of work and scholars have been valued or excluded? How can we push the field further in the future? What are future potentials for this subject?
